Student Intensive Continuation Course: Level A

This set of lessons picks up where the Student Writing Intensive left off and advances writing strength. Students continue to use the same notebook and charts, learning new models and techniques not previously presented in the SWI. Contained on the CD-ROM for easy access and unlimited printing are the source material for each lesson, checklists, lesson plans, grading sheets, and student samples.
Prerequisites: This course assumes that the student has completed one level of the Student Writing Intensive either live or on video or has had equivalent instruction.
For a long time it was Andrew’s dream to teach and record a set of classes just like he would teach if he could be in your town each week. While the Student Writing Intensive has helped thousands of families around the world, some parents want or need additional direct instruction for their students. This is that course.
Contents: Recorded live during the Spring of 2002, this ten-lesson series picks up right where the SWI leaves off. Students continue to use their same notebook and charts, learning new models and techniques not previously presented in the SWI. Along with the source material for each lesson, checklists, teacher grading sheets (beginning with week three), and student samples are provided on CD-ROM. The easy-to-use .pdf files may be printed for individuals as well as for small groups or classes. Some children may need help with the homework, so an assignment overview is supplied. Children can easily follow along with the class, pausing the video when prompted to complete the indicated activity on their own or occasionally with a partner at home.
Course Dynamics: These classes were originally presented one per week, and assignments were given with the intention that the students would complete them within four or five days. Although some children do the course independently, a better option is viewing with a parent, or in a small group, or as part of a class. A lesson overview list is provided to help make each week’s goal as clear as possible, but marking papers is the responsibility of the parent or teacher.
Who Should Purchase This Course? This course is not meant to be a replacement for a real teacher using the Teaching Writing: Structure and Style program. It is designed for students who enjoyed the Student Writing Intensive classes so much they just want more, for families or teachers who want to further improve their teaching of writing and would benefit from exposure to a more comprehensive set of demonstration lessons, or for students whose primary writing instruction does not include Structure & Style, and who wish to supplement what they learn in school.
What Should You Purchase? Students who completed the Student Writing Intensive Level A live or video course are ready for SICC-A. Students who completed the SWI level B course are ready for SICC-B. Students who completed SWI level C are ready for SICC-C. Furthermore, students who completed SICC-A are ready for SICC-B, and those completing SICC-B are ready for SICC-C.
