At what age can we start PAL?

PAL is intended for ages 5 or 6, but it can be used with a 4 year old on up. You don’t want to begin having your student print until they develop their fine-hand coordination, which doesn’t usually occur till about age 5. You could use just the reading part, but the reading and writing are intended to be used together, so it is best to not start too early.
The program is not too cutesy, so it is an excellent resource if you have an older student (6-8) who needs some remedial help. I have been using it with my 6 year old, but her older dyslexic 11 and 13 year old sisters get to listen in and help her play the games. The All About Spelling is suitable for any age (even teenagers), so PAL Writing can be used by any age student if they need the gentle, remedial help.
Whatever age you start, the Teacher’s Manual does give recommendations for how you can adjust the program to meet your unique child’s needs.
