Graduate Credit for IEW training

Morningside

We are pleased to offer graduate credit to qualified teachers through Morningside College Graduate Studies.

Requirements:

  • Have earned a bachelor's degree in any field.
  • Complete the Teaching Writing: Structure & Style course, either live or on DVD. (May be purchased here. The cost is $169.)
  • One credit will be granted to those who successfully complete the requirements to become an IEW accredited instructor at the Registered level. (Click here for details.) The application fee for accreditation at the Registered level is $50. In addition, a fee of $40 is paid to Morningside College for the graduate credit.
  • Two credits will be granted for completing the requirements at the Certified level. (Click here for more information.) The application fee for accreditation at the Certified level is $100. In addition, a fee of $80 is paid to Morningside College for the graduate credits. This level requires that you show proof that you have led a group of students through IEW's writing instructional methods.
    Optional: if you wish to have ready-made lessons to use in fulfilling the teaching requirement for Certified accreditation rather than creating your own, you may purchase the Student Writing Intensive materials or one of our books of Theme-Based Writing Lessons.

    Instructor: Dr. Gary K. House

    Gary House

    Dr. House has been a Christian college and seminary professor for most of his career. He has also served as a pastor, church planter, and in summer missions work in Indonesia and South Korea. He has served as adjunct faculty at Taylor University and Columbia International University. For several years, he was the Director of the M.A. in Pastoral Ministries, and Director of Mentoring at the Huntington University Graduate School in Indiana. Dr. House has earned a B.A. from Asbury College, an M.Div. from Asbury Theological Seminary, an M.A. from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, and a Ph.D. from The University of South Carolina. His M.A. research focused on the History of American Revivalism, and his doctorate was in American Educational History. Other research interests include the History of Christian Liberal Arts Colleges; American Religious History; and American Cultural, Political, and Religious Trends and Issues. He is currently engaged in research, consulting, ministry, and pursuing entreprenneurial ventures. He and his wife Laura homeschooled their three college-aged children, and currently reside in Lynchburg, VA.
